Welcome
Welcome to The Southwater Junior Academy (SJA)
At SJA, we pay attention to detail. We have a clear idea of how we should work together; we care about each other and are committed to our goals; and we have shared high standards that matter to us because we are passionate about education in its widest sense.
Most importantly, our academy values of kindness, resilience and working hard are central to everything we do.
Our unique and detailed understanding of education within the junior phases means we are able to embrace the very highest standards for learning for children starting in Year 3, all the way through to the end of Year 6. As a result, our KS2 outcomes are strong, with attainment well above national average.
We value English and Maths at the heart of our curriculum. We also give high priority to a wide range of subjects, all taught by expert staff. Pupils receive high quality Spanish, PE, RE, music and science provision from our team of specialist teachers. Reading is prioritised ensuring pupils have access to the full range of curriculum subjects. Where there are gaps, children are given appropriate and timely support by our knowledgeable staff.
SJA pupils are happy and cared for and there is a strong culture of respect. In response to children's recent experiences during turbulent times, we have further enhanced our - already excellent - support for children's wellbeing. We have an expert inclusion team comprised of our Inclusion Manager/SENCo, Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), Therapeutic Support Assistant (TSA) and Family Link Worker. This is alongside our team of excellent LSAs, our Academic Mentor and our team of School-Led Tutors. We are proud to have achieved our Wellbeing Award for Schools, developed in partnership with the National Children’s Bureau and Optimus Education. The award recognises the outstanding work being done to promote mental health and wellbeing within the academy community.
A variety of different backgrounds and needs are represented within our academy, which makes our community strong. Being considerate of others and looking out for each other is a true mark of what it means to be part of the SJA team. We listen to children and their experiences to help shape our future. Pupil voice and pupil leadership is celebrated at every opportunity.
At SJA, we are hugely proud of our pupils who - day in, day out - rise to the challenge of the high expectations we set. Not only do children do incredibly well academically, they also demonstrate exemplary behaviour, caring attitudes and positive relationships. This can be seen across the academy and is the reason why we have such a strong reputation.
We warmly welcome visitors wishing to come and see SJA for themselves. Please don't hesitate to contact the academy office to enquire about a tour. Or, if you have a question, we can arrange for you to have a chat with a member of our excellent team.
