History

Our curriculum subject areas of the website are currently being revised and updated. However, please see below for a flavour of what we do.

At Southwater Junior Academy (SJA) we strongly believe that if we do not know our past, how can we recognise what we are today and our way forward into the future. Historians at SJA develop skills to help them understand chronology, historical interpretation, sources and events, people and changes. As the children progress through the school they deepen their understanding of these skills so they can question and tests the validity of sources.  The children learn to question , probe and understand a wide range of events which have shaped cultures and institutions both in Britain and across the globe.  Each topic presents opportunities for children to visit historical sites or welcome subject experts into school to enhance their learning. By studying key turning points in British and world history we are able to draw out the clear links from the past to our present day.  We strongly believe that if we do not know our past, how can we recognise what we are today and our way forward in the future?
