Physical Education
PE at SJA provides children with the opportunity to become physically confident whilst also developing the key skills across a variety of concepts. The PE curriculum supports children’s health, wellbeing and fitness. The aim of our PE programme is to develop children’s basic physical competencies, build confidence in their ability and build the foundations for a lifelong love of sport, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. Throughout the PE learning journey from years 3 to 6, many concepts are re-visited, which enable pupils to become more resilient when tackling new skills. PE lessons encourage children to compete amongst themselves and others as well as giving them the opportunity to develop and challenge physical, social and thinking skills. In addition to the PE curriculum, children are provided with the opportunity to take part in an array of extracurricular activities where they can demonstrate the new skills they have been taught in both inter and intra sports competitions. At SJA we provide excellent opportunities for pupils to engage in competitive sports showcasing individual and group achievements.
Following the Sports Premium payment, provided by government specifically for PE, we have employed our own, full-time PE Instructor, Mr Paul Showell to work alongside our PE Co-ordinator, Mrs Laura Bamber. This has had an immense impact on provision, leading to SJA being recognised as one of the top providers of high quality PE and sport in West Sussex.
