Southwater Junior became an academy in July 2011. As an Academy Trust is a Registered Company Limited by Guarantee, having a Memorandum of Association signed by governors originally appointed as Members of the Academy Trust. 
 
The Trustees are the employer and the admissions authority. The land and buildings are held in trust by the Trustees. The Trust is made up of Trustees who have been appointed as Directors of the Company, and these Trustees have entered into a Funding Agreement & Deed of Variation with the Department of Education which includes the Memorandum and Articles of Association for the Company.
