As you will no doubt be aware, the latest curriculum, introduced in 2014 increased the demand for children needing to be able to spell accurately. Most people read words more accurately than they spell them and this therefore poses a challenge for pupils and teachers. The word lists for years 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 are statutory. The lists are a mixture of words pupils frequently use in their writing and those which they often misspell. So some of the words are quite challenging. To help the children learn these spellings, we are trialling some animated spellings on the website. Please see link below. There are also copies of the statutory lists as well. At the moment, we have only animated the words beginning with 'a' and 'b' for years 3 and 4 and those beginning with 'a', 'b' and 'c' for years 5 and 6.
Please share the spellings with your child and let us know how successful it is as a way of helping them to learn the tricky words. The videos can be paused and the music can be switched off. There is a link to a feedback form on the spellings' page for you to submit. As always, don't hesitate to talk to your child's class teacher if there are any issues with this.
