Dear visitor

Welcome to Southwater Junior Academy, located in Southwater, West Sussex.

Children join our academy in year 3 at age 7, and leave us at the end of Year 6 when they are 11 years old.  We have up to 4 classes in each of our year groups.  The academy is popular and successful, both academically and pastorally.

Whether you are a current parent, a prospective parent, one of our children or just interested in learning more about our academy, we hope you find our website helpful and informative. If you require any further information or would like to look around the academy, please do contact us.  Words alone cannot give the full picture of the academy, its positive atmosphere and the welcoming ethos promoted by both pupils and staff.

Our broad aim for the pupils at Southwater Junior Academy is to provide high quality educational opportunities in order to increase their knowledge, skills, experience and understanding. We aim to create a climate for growth in which pupils can discover their strengths and talents, love learning and realise their potential.  We pride ourselves on offering a high quality curriculum centred on a rich diet of learning experiences. This is underpinned by our mission statement of ‘Learning for Life’.  Furthermore, our curriculum is firmly based upon our 3 academy values of Kindness, Resilience and Working Hard.

Our end of Key Stage 2 results are strong, with attainment well above national average.  Whilst we value English and Maths at the heart of our curriculum, we believe primary education should be broad and balanced. As a result, our children receive high quality specialist music, PE, RE, science and foreign language provision.

The standard of sport at Southwater Junior academy is at the very highest level. Our sports clubs include football, netball, cricket, hockey, tag rugby, gymnastics, table tennis, stoolball, rounders, athletics, basketball and dance. Our full-time PE instructor has ensured that there has been a noticeable increase in pupils enjoyment of PE, increased levels of participation in our extra-curricular clubs and improved competitiveness of our teams, both for girls and boys.  This has been recognised by the well-regarded AfPE Quality Mark at the highest level of Distinction.

In terms of ICT, we have developed a high quality curriculum.  We have been keen to invest time, money and personnel to ensure that our pupils have access to the latest technology and a curriculum that is purposeful and challenging. The academy enjoys a well-equipped computer suite, strong investment in tablet technology and a broad and deep curriculum which includes computer programming, digital design and video production.

Across the arts, we have a varied offer of drama, dance, art, design technology, and music.  These are delivered within the classroom and through enriching experiences for children through clubs and extracurricular opportunities.  Our pupil art leaders support the leadership of the arts across the academy, running initiatives such as photography competitions and contributing to assemblies.

I hope this introduction gives you a flavour of what we do, what we believe, and - most importantly - how our pupils consistently demonstrate they are a real credit to the academy.

If you have time to visit, come and see why we have such a strong reputation: a place where pupils are happy and cared for, with a strong culture of respect, and with the very highest standards for learning.
